The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (sbcta) of California is preparing to build a tunnel connecting Cucamonga subway station and Ontario International Airport. The tunnel will be mainly used by autonomous vehicles.
The planned diameter of the tunnel is 7.3m. The whole tunnel project also includes three stations, which will be equipped with maintenance facilities and operation control centers for autonomous vehicles.
Ontario International Airport is located in the center of San Bernardino Valley and has always been the fastest-growing commercial airport in the United States. By 2040, the annual number of passengers is expected to double to 30 million.
